GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The Position

This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same, including:

  • Working independently or as part of a team to help manage and maintain our period properties.
  • Responding to day-to-day reactive repairs and maintenance issues, including plumbing issues, water leaks, carpentry repairs and investigations.
  • Carrying out cyclical pre-paint repairs.
  • Assisting with the monitoring and maintaining of our private water supply, including weekly checks.
  • Helping maintain the high standards across our properties and facilities

About You

You may have experience as a site carpenter, Handyman or General Maintenance Technician with a range of skills:

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a supportive team
  • Practical and solutions-focused, with a positive can-do attitude
  • Friendly, approachable and professional when working with tenants and colleagues
  • Committed to excellent standards, particularly around health and safety
  • Someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys a varied working day
  • Trustworthy

Our nursery offers children a distinctive start to life—where the classroom extends beyond four walls into fields, gardens, and woodlands. Rooted in the principles of outdoor learning, sustainability and farm-to-fork food principals, we provide an environment where curiosity, independence, and a love for nature are nurtured every day. As an independent nursery, we pride ourselves on flexibility, creativity and a close-knit community feel. Grasshoppers Nursery is privately- owned, and purpose-built.

Senior PRACTITIONER  

We are seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner, or an Early Years Practitioner ready to take the next step in their career, who has a genuine passion for nature and outdoor learning. We are a small, vibrant team dedicated to creating memorable experiences for children—from farm adventures and garden projects to animal encounters, picnics at Overbury Court, and plenty of muddy welly walks. If you enjoy learning beyond the classroom, love inspiring children through nature and real-life experiences, and are passionate about getting involved in community events, we would love to hear from you.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering high-quality education and care based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Help plan, implement, and evaluate a range of age-appropriate activities and experiences that engage children and support their learning and development.
  • Foster a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment that supports each child’s growth in all areas—emotional, social, physical, and cognitive.

Person Specification

  • Enjoys the outdoors
  • Positive can-do attitude
  • Passionate about child care and experience of managing and guiding a team (or a willingness to learn)
  • A full and relevant Level 2 or above qualification in childcare
  • A good understanding of the EYFS and a variety of approaches to learning and development
  • A thorough knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Submit to an enhanced DBS check
  • Be prepared to undertake further training including ongoing safeguarding and paediatric first aid.

Requirements:

  • Early Years qualification (Level 2/3 or equivalent)
  • Two satisfactory relevant references
  • Satisfactory disclosure check and sign-up to the update service

Early years apprentice

This is a unique opportunity for a highly-enthusiastic, warm, and nature-loving individual to achieve their Early Years qualification (Level 2 or 3) under the dedicated guidance of our experienced team.

About the role:

  • Working towards a Level 2 or 3 Early Years Educator qualification through Parenta
  • You will be given time to complete tasks related to the apprenticeship
  • 30 hours per week (flexible schedule)

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Must enjoy working with children and have a love of the outdoors. 
  • Embraces the nursery’s ethos of outdoor and healthy living
  • Has knowledge of safeguarding children
  • An interest in healthy lifestyles would be an advantage
  • Ideally local

Estate/Senior Gardener

The Role

The business is seeking an experienced gardener to take a key role alongside the Head Gardener and the rest of the Team. We are looking for a proactive, hands on gardener who has experience in working with a small team in a similar setting. You will be working closely with the Head Gardener and the forward thinking Team on the day to day management of the gardens.

This is a rare opportunity for a passionate and energetic gardener to further their career in horticulture.

Key responsibilities within the role are working in a listed park and garden with herbaceous borders, extensive lawns, topiary and a historic Grotto set in 10 ac. The gardens also include a walled kitchen and cut flower garden, supplying Overbury Court with fresh produce and floral arrangements.

In addition to this the Garden Team is involved with a number of other properties in the business and is responsible for tenanted properties and those being prepared for letting.

Someone who has experience working with trees including felling would be an advantage.

Job Requirements

  • RHS Level 2 or equivalent
  • Solid plant knowledge
  • Eye for detail
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in Horticulture
  • Machinery experience (Ride on Mowers, Hedge Cutters, Strimmers and Tractor driving)
  • PA1,PA6 (desirable)
  • CS30,31 (desirable)
  • Full clean driving license
